Forty-seven thousand ratings on a battery lantern say less about brightness than about survival: what usually fails on a light-and-fan unit is the motor bearing or the switch, and a sample this size is long enough for that to surface. What an average cannot tell you is whether you need the fan at all - on a cold night it is weight you carry for nothing.
